After an 18-month hiatus, Broadway is coming back to center stage.
Performers and audiences of the art are excited to get back to what they love. New York City’s tourism industry took a huge loss during the hiatus. Broadway contributes roughly $14.7 billion to NYC’s economy and supports nearly 96,900 local jobs.
Tourism in the city took a 75% loss in 2020 compared to 2019. The city’s 10-year streak of tourist growth ended during the pandemic, only 22.3 million tourists came. Just 33% of the number of tourists in 2019.
However, people have hope that the city and its tourism will return to normal at the opening of broadway. Hamilton along with other shows are set to perform in NYC in the next few weeks.
