Mikey Madison’s performance and Yuriy Borisov’s attentive subtleties will have you wondering why you hadn’t watched this movie sooner. As a business-thinker, this movie demonstrates the demonic downsides of tremendous wealth, especially as it pertains to familial relationships and the poor treatment of fellow humans. Anora is the cautionary tale for the uber-wealthy.
2. I Saw The TV Glow’s Encouragement to Authenticity
A magical 90-themed investigation of the transsexual experience, I Saw The TV Glow is endlessly layered and eye-opening. At face value, the grim horror narrative is horribly nail biting and terrifying. With appearances from Phoebe Bridgers and an original soundtrack from Alex G, this indie movie turned blockbuster is enchanting. Standout scenes include an inflatable planetarium and surreal interactions at a carnival ground, which will have you thinking about the movie for weeks afterwards. Although the story is at times sad and hopeless, the movie is notably moving, cerebral and wonderful. From an entrepreneurial perspective, this movie speaks to the importance of living a life authentically and stepping out of your comfort zone, where more happiness, opportunity and life is.
3. Hitman’s Personality Alterations
For movie and Glen Powell lovers, Hitman has a little bit of everything. As a comedic exploration of movie history, Hitman ties together sexiness and action alongside intellectual philosophical ideas together. Living a double life and playing aside Austin Amelio’s best Rust Cole from True Detective impression, former hitman “Jasper,” Powell’s “Gary” develops from a psychology professor to a true hitman in two hours. His sharp intellect and hilarious impressions can bring Powell through this movie with exceptional panache. Watch this to witness a chameleonic character develop before your very eyes. 4. The Powerful Worms of Dune Part Two
The hero’s journey is a trope used in any fiction. Tracing the life of Timothee Chalamet’s “Paul Atreides” from Duke of Arrakis to desert wanderer to Fremen Leader is mind boggling and riveting. Accompanied by political intrigue reminiscent of Game of Thrones and other wonderful high fantasy, the Dune trilogy is this generation’s best sci-fi trilogy, unfolding before us all. 5. A Real Pain Reels You In
A Real Pain takes the watcher into the mind of Jesse Eisenberg, accompanied by Kieran Culkin. Culkin’s “all-encompassing” performance and Eisenberg’s biting honesty and helplessness speak to an incredibly human aspect of family relationships. This harrowing journey through the scenes of Jewish struggle during World War II is handled exquisitely and respectfully by Eisenberg and the cast. An exceedingly dynamic film, at times darkly funny and brightly hopeful, A Real Pain will reel you in and not let go. These are the top 5 movies of the year in my opinion.
