Walmart has taken a proactive step in safeguarding its customers’ eye health by voluntarily recalling a specific eye drop product. This decision comes on the heels of growing concerns over product safety, as the eye drops were manufactured in a facility associated with recent recalls by CVS, Rite Aid, and Target.
On October 27, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a stern warning to consumers, urging them to steer clear of 26 different eye drop varieties produced in a facility marred by unsanitary conditions. These conditions raised the alarming prospect of bacterial contamination within the affected eye drops, which could potentially lead to eye infections and even vision impairment.
Walmart’s decision revolves around the recall of a single eye drop product, making it the 27th entry on the FDA’s list of products to avoid. The eye drops in question are Equate Hydration PF Lubricating Eye Drops (Polyethylene Glycol Eye Drops 0.6% w/v), manufactured by Velocity Pharma, LLC. These recalled eye drops can be identified by the UPC 00194346058815 and the lot numbers KRPE 3090 and KRPE 3091.
Walmart advises customers not to use these eye drops and instead encourages proper disposal. Furthermore, consumers who have purchased this product can bring their receipts to Walmart stores to receive a full, in-store refund.
The FDA’s ongoing vigilance on product safety has led to an update in their advisory, now incorporating the Equate Hydration PF Lubricant Eye Drop 10 ml (Polyethylene Glycol 400 0.4% & Propylene Glycol 0.3% Eye Drops) within the list of recalled items.
