Have you ever been in the middle of designing your business card and thought to yourself “There has to be an easier way to do this?” What if I told you that sharing your contact information could be as easy as tapping your phone to someone else’s? Would you be intrigued?

Well, it’s true. There is technology out there that makes sharing your contact information as easy as using Apple or Samsung Pay. Popl, a growing startup based in Los Angeles, California, uses NFC (near field communications) technology that is embedded in a phone sticker, keychain, or wristband. To use it, you just tap your sticker, keychain, or wristband to someone else’s phone and voila! That person gets a notification and all your contact information is now in that person’s hand.

Now, you may be thinking “How do I actually get my information on this little sticker, keychain, or wristband?” Simple. You download an app on your phone where you can set up everything from your name and phone number to your social media accounts. Any form of contact you can think of…it’s on there.

Since Popl co-founders, Jason Alvarez-Cohen and Nick Eischens launched their startup in February of 2020, they have sold over 700,000 units and made $2.7 million in sales. The app is free to download in the Apple store and the Google Play store while the Popl products cost you $19.99 – $29.99+tax. With the need for minimal contact as COVID-19 continues to rage on, it’s only expected that their business will continue to grow.

As first-time founders, Alvarez-Cohen and Eischens are constantly learning new things and are certain there will be many obstacles they’ll face in the years to come. But they are ready for anything thrown their way and go into conflicts saying, “Bring it on!

And for those who are curious about launching their very own startups, Alvarez-Cohen and Eischens say that it is better to start with your value proposition. Make sure you know what you want to do and how it will attract people. Starting a business is truly all about your customers, so build on what people would find interesting. Once you figure that out, continue focusing on other aspects of the startup-like distribution.

With the world of entrepreneurship constantly changing, Popl and its success are a sign of hope for newer startups. Don’t give up on your dreams or your business. Keep pushing and keep growing. Your time will come to you.
