Elon Musk rekindled his bitter feud with Jeff Bezos, his billionaire rival, by alleging that Bezos frequently imitates his business strategies.
In response to a tweet from controversial tech provocateur Kim Dotcom, who claimed that Bezos was copying Musk’s forays into fast-growing economic sectors, Musk took a sarcastic dig at the founder of Amazon.
Dotcom wrote, “Elon builds rockets, Jeff imitates Elon.” “Elon creates electric vehicles; Jeff imitates. Elon Jeff imitates Elon, who develops a brain-computer interface, just as [Microsoft founder] Bill Gates imitated [Amazon founder] Steve Jobs.
With a shrugging emoji, Musk retorted, “Perhaps it’s just a coincidence.”
The sarcastic tweet was the most recent exchange between Musk and Bezos, who have a rocky relationship behind closed doors and frequently disagree over their competing business interests. A historically unprecedented private space race is being led by the two billionaires.
Bezos’ Blue Origin and Musk’s SpaceX are in competition for government contracts and to become the top space tourism companies globally. Separately, Amazon has started Project Kuiper, a project to create an internet satellite “constellation” to compete with SpaceX’s Starlink network.
2019 saw Amazon launch Project Kuiper, and Musk tweeted that Bezos was a “copycat” at the time.
In an unsuccessful legal battle last year, Blue Origin had accused NASA of giving SpaceX an improperly awarded contract for a lunar lander.
Dotcom also made mention of Gates and Bezos’ $75 million fundraising effort for brain computing company Synchron. Musk, a co-founder of Neuralink and a strong supporter of the benefits of brain implants, has even pledged to implant a chip in his own brain once the science is advanced enough for human use.
Tesla, an automaker with Musk as its CEO and a commanding lead in the electric vehicle market, acquired the self-driving taxi startup Zoox from Bezos’ Amazon in 2020 for $1.2 billion.
Only Galadriel, the show’s female lead character, is brave, intelligent, and kind, Musk continued.
With an estimated net worth of $163.7 billion, Musk is currently the second-richest person in the world, according to Forbes. With an estimated net worth of $111.1 billion, Bezos comes in fourth place.
