Amazon is shaking up the discount shopping scene with the launch of its new category, Amazon Haul, offering U.S. customers ultra-low prices on a wide range of products. Debuting on Wednesday in beta, the section features items priced at $20 or less, with many under $10, spanning categories from fashion to electronics.
Highlighting its affordability, products include an iPhone 16 case for just $1.79, a jewelry set for $2.99, and touchscreen gloves for $3.21. Dharmesh Mehta, Amazon’s Vice President of Worldwide Selling Partner Services, described the initiative as a commitment to customer satisfaction by delivering quality products at unmatched prices.
Challenging Shein and Temu
Amazon Haul marks a clear attempt to rival discount giants like Shein, which recorded $32 billion in sales in 2023, with its average item priced at $10. The launch positions Amazon to attract the same cost-conscious shoppers who have propelled platforms like Shein and Temu to prominence.
Shipping and Returns: What to Know
While the prices are enticing, shoppers should note a few limitations:
- Delivery takes one to two weeks, with a $25 minimum for free shipping. Orders below $25 incur a $3.99 shipping fee, yet both options share the same delivery time.
- Returns are only available for orders totaling $3 or more. For instance, a $2.99 table runner wouldn’t qualify for return eligibility, encouraging customers to consolidate their purchases.
Bulk Discounts for Bigger Savings
To further attract shoppers, Amazon Haul offers additional discounts for larger orders: 5% off purchases of $50 or more and 10% off orders above $75. The section is accessible via the Amazon Shopping app or by visiting www.amazon.com/haul.
A Strategic Move in the Discount Market
With Amazon generating over $574 billion in revenue in 2023—primarily from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico—this new category signals a strategic pivot to dominate the competitive discount marketplace. Whether Amazon Haul will gain traction against Shein and Temu remains to be seen, but with prices this low, it’s bound to attract attention.
