OpenAI said on October 7, 2026 that it is rolling out a new GPT-6 model in ChatGPT for the more than 1.2 billion people who use the service each week. OpenAI introduced the first GPT-6 models for paid customers last month; this release brings GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, plus Intelligent UI, into ChatGPT. The release adds a feature called Intelligent UI, which lets ChatGPT answer with interactive elements such as charts, buttons, forms and diagrams, not only text. The details below come from OpenAI’s announcement.
What Intelligent UI does
OpenAI says GPT-6 chooses how to present an answer based on the question. A comparison might appear side by side. An explanation might use an interactive diagram. When plain text is the best answer, ChatGPT can still reply in text. OpenAI also says users can ask ChatGPT to build a small tool in the chat, such as a calculator or a bill splitter. It says the interface is built from a library of native, streamable components and appears as the model writes.
Faster answers
OpenAI says ChatGPT can now start answering while it keeps thinking. In an internal evaluation, it says GPT-6 Extra High begins answering in the same time as GPT-5.6 Medium and scores better than GPT-5.6 Extra High. For questions that need web search, OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. These are OpenAI’s own internal results.
Who gets it, and when
Rollout began October 7 for paid tiers (Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise) in the Chat tab and expands October 8 to Free and Go users. Enterprise availability depends on workplace admin settings. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise use GPT-6 Sol, and Free and Go use GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI says the models behind Work and Codex are not changing in this release.
What is not known
The performance numbers are OpenAI’s internal results; Grey Journal has not independently tested them. OpenAI says there is still work to do on the model’s design judgment. In our analysis, an interactive chart or form does not by itself validate model-generated data, so check figures against the original source. OpenAI’s announcement links to a system card with safety results, which we have not reviewed here.
