Puerto Vallarta isn’t just about beaches and sunsets—it’s a city that sneaks up on you with its blend of natural beauty and culinary surprises. It’s where you can sit at a table with the ocean at your feet, eat food so fresh it practically tells you a story, and feel utterly, happily present.
For ambitious entrepreneurs looking to escape their busy lives and reconnect with something simple yet profound, Puerto Vallarta offers dining experiences that are more than just about the food—they’re moments you want to press pause on and savor.
Here’s my personal take on some of the city’s standout spots. They’re places where the atmosphere, the flavors, and the people make you feel like you’ve found something special.
Bahía by Richard Sandoval

Effortless Luxury With a Stunning Ocean View
Bahía is a masterclass in how to take the freshest ingredients and let them shine. Located on Punta Mita’s Four Seasons beachfront, it’s the kind of place where you can kick off your sandals, dig into a plate of grilled shrimp, and feel like you’ve cracked the code on effortless luxury.

The classic Surf and Turf is the kind of dish that reminds you why fresh, simple food is unbeatable. Lightly seasoned, charred just enough, and impossibly sweet, it tasted like the ocean itself had pulled up a chair. The Grilled Octopus was another classic—smoky, tender, and perfectly paired with indulgent sides like Saffron Risotto.
And then there’s the Jalapeño Margarita. Spicy, tangy, and bold, it felt like the perfect match for the golden light of a Punta Mita sunset. This wasn’t just a meal; it was a moment, etched into memory by the rhythm of waves and the easy glow of good company.

Sandrinas in Nayarit

A Tasty Slice of the Mediterranean
Tucked into Riviera Nayarit, Sandrinas feels like a storybook come to life. With its colorful decor and Greek-inspired menu, it’s warm and welcoming in a way that invites you to linger.
The food here is a reflection of its owner, Sandra, who pours her heart into every detail. The Grilled Lamb Chops, seasoned just right, were a highlight—rich, tender, and comforting. For dessert, the Key Lime Pie with a Chocolate Crust was a revelation: tangy, sweet, and just indulgent enough to keep you coming back for “one last bite.”

This isn’t a place to rush through. Chat with Sandra. Admire the art on the walls. It’s the kind of restaurant where you leave feeling like you’ve been invited into someone’s home.

Restaurante Tuna Blanca Punta Mita

A Love Letter to the Sea
Tuna Blanca feels both chic and deeply connected to its surroundings, blending bold Mexican flavors with refined technique. The star of my visit? The Temazcal Shrimp, served in a buttery guajillo pepper broth with basmati rice that somehow managed to balance spice, sweetness, and richness in every bite. Chef Thierry Blouet masterfully blends Mexican flavors with classic French techniques, creating dishes that highlight the best of both worlds

Everything about this place feels intentional—the light torches along the beach, the sound of the waves in the background, and the attentive staff who seem to know exactly what you need before you do. It’s an experience that lingers, much like the flavors of the meal itself.

Makai

Casual, Fresh, and Utterly Unpretentious
Makai doesn’t try to be fancy, and that’s what makes it so charming. This laid-back seafood spot off the highway serves some of the freshest ceviche you’ll ever eat. The Ceviche Verde, with its pumpkin seeds and a zing of sriracha jalapeño, is light and zesty—a perfect antidote to the afternoon sun.

And the Crab Cake Burger? Let’s just say it’s the kind of dish you think about long after you’ve left. Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced, it’s proof that great food doesn’t need to be complicated.
Pro tip: Always ask the owner what’s fresh that day. Their recommendations never miss.

Bonito Lounge

A Home Away From Home, With Delicious Food
Bonito Lounge feels like a community more than a restaurant. The Truffle Fries are indulgent in the best way, and the Tuna Tostada, with its sesame-crusted tuna and avocado mousse, brings a little flair to an otherwise laid-back menu.

But what makes this place stand out is the atmosphere—the kind of warm, buzzing energy that makes you want to stay a little longer, order another drink, and soak in the Puerto Vallarta night.

Casita & Garden

Come for the Vibe, Stay for the Food
Casita & Garden is the kind of place that feels effortlessly welcoming, like walking into a friend’s backyard where every detail has been thoughtfully arranged. Tucked away in Puerto Vallarta, this spot combines rustic elegance with a lively community vibe.

The evening began with a wine tasting, each pour offering a new story. The cellar, cool and dimly lit in a cave at the lower level, held an impressive collection that felt more like a treasure trove than a restaurant feature. Paired with a slice of their wood-fired pizza—thin, crisp, and generously topped—it was the perfect prelude to an evening that felt equal parts indulgent and unpretentious.
What sets Casita & Garden apart is its ability to make strangers feel like old friends. The hum of conversation, the occasional clink of glasses, and the soft notes of live music created an atmosphere that was hard to leave. It’s the kind of place where time slips away without a second thought, replaced by the simple pleasure of good food, good wine, and good company.

Casita & Garden: Izakaya Bar

Sake and Sushi in Good Company

Next door to Casita & Garden, Izakaya Bar offers a sharp contrast: sleek, intimate, and brimming with energy. Rafael Martinez, the chef and owner, is Puerto Vallarta’s only sake sommelier, and his expertise transforms the dining experience into something extraordinary.
The omakase menu is an exercise in precision and creativity. Each dish feels like a carefully crafted surprise—a progression of flavors that blend Japanese technique with Mexican flair. Nigiri topped with a whisper of habanero. Sashimi dressed with citrus and herbs. Every bite feels intentional, elevated by Rafael’s thoughtfully chosen sake pairings.
This isn’t a place to rush through a meal. The seasonal menu ensures that each visit feels unique, and the interplay of fresh ingredients and bold ideas makes every plate worth savoring. By the end of the meal, I felt not just full but inspired—proof that great food can be a kind of artistry.

Tintoque

Mindful Contemporary Mexican Cuisine
Tintoque feels like stepping into the heart of Puerto Vallarta’s evolving story. Situated in the Zona Romántica, the restaurant pays homage to the region’s culinary roots while fearlessly embracing global influences.
Chef Joel Ornelas brings the flavors of the Pacific to life with dishes like the Bluefin Tuna—a perfect marriage of smoky sear and buttery texture. The ceviche was a highlight, its tangy brightness balanced by the natural sweetness of fresh fish. Each plate felt like a dialogue between past and present, tradition and experimentation.

Fish Ceviche

The setting amplifies the experience. Elegant without being pretentious, the space invites conversation and contemplation. It’s the kind of place that lingers in your memory, not just for the food but for the feeling of being part of something meaningful—a celebration of Puerto Vallarta’s culinary identity.
The Flavors of Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta is an invitation to connect—with the land, the sea, and the people who pour their hearts into every dish. Each meal tells a different story, from the laid-back charm of Makai to the creative brilliance of Tintoque.
These are just my personal experiences—Puerto Vallarta is a vibrant city with so much more to explore. I’m sure there are countless hidden gems and local favorites I haven’t discovered yet. If I’ve missed a spot you love, share your tips and recommendations in the comments! Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other uncover all the incredible dining experiences this city has to offer.
This city doesn’t demand flashy fanfare. Its magic lies in the details—the crunch of ceviche on a sunlit afternoon, the way a perfectly grilled shrimp tastes like the ocean itself, or the hum of conversation as twilight settles over a lively terrace. So pull up a chair, sip something refreshing, and let Puerto Vallarta surprise you. The best moments here aren’t planned—they’re tasted.
