When it comes to popular brands, you can probably think about one or two at the top of your head. There are many examples of what brands you might think of. They can consist of fashion, makeup, skincare, home decor, health and wellness, and even company collaborations.
Not only are we influenced by those that we look up to, but we buy products because of their name. “Gucci,” “Dior,” “Chanel,” “Rolex,” “Rare Beauty,” “Stanley,” etc. As a society we depend on the brands we know, to fulfill our everyday needs and wants.
Celebrities are people that are mysterious, so being able to buy their products or ideas that have come to forwishen, makes us feel closer to them, even if we don’t know them at all. I believe that all celebrity brands give us a comfort feeling from those we admire and love the most. Having a specific artist or celebrity in mind at all times makes it easier for their name to be a leading factor to why you might purchase a product of theirs. Being able to feel close to the name will also give credibility to their name as well.
What are some of these popular celebrity brands?

We tend to follow a train of release, when something is either being released or showcased. Circumstances can occur when something new has been announced or when something has been put onto shelves at your nearest store. Taking an example from a recent brand collaboration announcement, Ariana Grandes’ R.E.M Beauty brand has recently announced a collaboration with Wicked. Since the new movie is going to be released in theaters Nov. 22, 2024, the brand collaboration will bring a new audience to such a profound name as Wicked.
Grande collaborated with Wicked in benefit for both sides to have major consumerism through theater turnout and beauty brand shopping. The collection consists of makeup, and skincare products that look magical and bring both brands mission statements to life. The meaning of having brand collaborations intrigue younger generations through appeal. TikTok and Instagram are some of the most popular social media platforms in which brands use to advertise and appeal new products to generations across the board. Gen Z has had the affect the most because we depend on social media.
Grande is not one of the only signers that turned into entrepreneurs, in which they produced a record breaking beauty company. Selena Gomez made the brand Rare Beauty, in which the brand’s mission is to be inclusive and equal when it comes to beauty standards.
As stated by Cosmeticsbusiness.com “The brand’s annual sales grew 100% from 2021 to 2022, and 200% in 2023, hitting $400m for the 12 months ending May…” This is not only the beginning of the record-breaking company, but Gomez is slowly breaking barriers that beauty brands don’t have to be so competitive when it comes to quality products that think about equality and inclusive consumers.
These brands depend on quality and quantity, not one over the other, because I have seen many people buy from many different celebrity brands, there are also many outlets where you can access the brands you’re interested in. Thanks to TikTok, brands have had a spike in sales because of the younger generations. Younger generations will stand by who they love, and specifically when their name is on a product it will influence who will buy.
The differences between consumers

Many consumers want different products for different needs and wants. Areas of consumerism can be from beauty to home decor. Drew Barrymore and Chrissy Teigen are only a few of the celebrities that have created everlasting home decor brands that are different by aesthetic but also provide the same necessity of having a comfortable home. Teigens’ brand Cravings is a cookware collection that “makes cooking fun,” and has colorful but multipurpose appliances that promote clutter free cooking.
Barrymore has multiple brands that promote accessible home decor options. Beautiful by Drew is a line that is accessed through Walmart in stores and online, as she wanted to create something colorful and sleek for modern households. Barrymore in an interview for thekitchn.com said “I’ve always dreamed of designing kitchen appliances that are functional and practical, but also look BEAUTIFUL on your countertop,”
Both Brands bring diverse options to every household, but both brands also bring something different to the consumers. Their names might also be the leading factor of sales as Teigen and Barrymore are well known names in film and television. Their names can be half of the reason why so many might want to have their products in their homes.
We need celebrity brands because they will give a sense of relation to us. Not only can we feel “closer” to them, but we can also support them and their causes. As the younger generation is realizing how impactful brands are in their daily lives, celebrities will keep making an influence on them.
Gen Z goes to celebrity brands because they want the name. They buy to show off, but also want a feeling of proximity to those they love the most. I think that there are pros and cons to owning celebrity brands because there are brands that offer the same/similar products. Having a famous name in reach will give satisfaction. It will create a sense of comfort that nothing else can, and being able to have that in hand is even better!
