On Tuesday, Private Equity titan Silver Lake disclosed its plans to make entertainment giant Endeavor Group Holdings a private entity through a buyout at $27.50 per share. Following the news, Endeavor’s stock surged over 2%, temporarily halting trades. It resumed under the $26 mark per share.
Silver Lake is set to procure all the remaining shares that are out of its possession, acquiring Endeavor with an equity value of $13 billion. This development was clarified in a press release shared by Endeavor. The completion of the buyout deal is expected by the end of Q1, 2025.
“We are confident that this agreement will optimize value for every public stockholder of Endeavor. Moreover, we are eager to seize and capitalize upon the growth opportunities ahead of us as a private firm,” affirmed Endeavor’s CEO, Ariel Emanuel.
Endeavor specializes in talent representation through its agency, WME. Its operational domains also extend to brand licensing and live events. Over recent years, the company has been in transition. In 2022, it took over OpenBet, a sports betting platform. A year later, in a $1.25 billion deal, it divested from IMG Academy, an institution focused on sports education.
Another subsidiary of Endeavor, TKO Group Holdings, which possess a majority stake in UFC and WWE, will maintain its status as a publicly-traded company, even after the acquisition. Endeavor had previously voiced interest in considering strategic alternatives, inclusive of potential sales.
Silver Lake’s connection with Endeavor dates back to 2012 when it initially invested in the company. It also championed Endeavor’s acquisition of UFC in 2016. Prior to the latest deal, Silver Lake’s co-CEO, Egon Durban, and Managing Director, Stephen Evans, had served on Endeavor’s board.
