Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has joined the ownership group of Spanish club Atlético de Madrid, the club said in an announcement dated October 8, 2026.

What the club said

In its announcement, Atlético said the partnership is “grounded in shared values: ambition, excellence and the belief that every result must be earned.” Gilgeous-Alexander said in the club’s statement: “This is a club with a long-standing presence at the top of European football, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of its future.” The club added that his investment “reflects an interest in the club’s long-term vision and international growth.”

The club describes him as a back-to-back NBA MVP and the 2025 NBA champion and Finals MVP. The Associated Press, in a report carried by FOX Sports on October 9, noted that he follows other North American sports figures into soccer ownership, including LeBron James, through his stake in Fenway Sports Group, and Tom Brady, a minority owner of the English club Birmingham.

What was not disclosed

Neither the club’s statement nor the AP report says how large his stake is or what he paid. Those figures are not established by the sources reviewed here, and this report does not estimate them.
