YouTube is rolling out a new AI-driven feature designed to change the way users find and interact with video content. Select Premium members in the United States now have access to an “AI-powered search results carousel” when searching for topics related to shopping, travel, or activities in specific locations. This experimental feature aims to streamline the search process and provide more relevant, easily digestible information.
The new search results carousel displays a prominent video clip at the top, followed by thumbnails of other relevant videos. Accompanying these visuals is an AI-generated summary that addresses the user’s query directly. Users can tap the featured video for a full viewing experience, making it easier to jump into the most relevant content without scrolling through multiple results.
Currently, this AI-powered carousel is available only on iOS and Android devices, and exclusively for English-language videos. The test is limited to a randomly selected group of Premium members and will be available until July 30th. YouTube has not yet announced plans for a wider rollout or expansion to other regions.
Expanding Conversational AI Tools
In addition to the search carousel, YouTube is broadening access to its conversational AI tool. This feature allows users to ask questions about a video and receive AI-generated responses, helping viewers quickly understand or clarify content. Previously available only to Premium members, the tool is now being made accessible to some non-Premium users in the US, reflecting YouTube’s ongoing investment in artificial intelligence to enhance user engagement.
For business owners and content creators, these updates could signal a shift in how audiences discover and interact with video content. AI-generated summaries and enhanced search features may influence which videos are surfaced and how users choose what to watch. Staying informed about these changes can help brands and creators adapt their strategies to remain visible and relevant.
What This Means for Search and Discovery
The introduction of AI-generated search results is part of a broader trend across Google’s platforms to integrate artificial intelligence into user-facing features. By offering concise, contextually relevant answers and curated video selections, YouTube aims to reduce friction in the discovery process. This could lead to higher engagement rates, as users find what they need more quickly and efficiently.
As AI continues to shape the future of online search, business leaders and creators should monitor these developments closely. Optimizing content for AI-driven discovery and understanding how these tools impact user behavior will be key to maintaining a competitive edge on the world’s largest video platform.
