Chappaqua, N.Y.— Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is scheduled to testify Thursday before the House Oversight Committee as part of its investigation into financier Jeffrey Epstein and allegations of sexual abuse. The closed-door session will take place in Chappaqua, New York, where Clinton resides.
The testimony will not be aired live, although it will be recorded. The committee has previously released tapes and transcripts from similar interviews, and it is expected to follow the same procedure in this case, NBC News reports.
Both Hillary and former President Bill Clinton were subpoenaed last year to testify in the investigation. Initially, the couple resisted the subpoenas, but they ultimately agreed to cooperate, avoiding potential legal battles over compliance.
Neither Hillary nor Bill Clinton has been accused of any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein. Both have stated they do not have personal knowledge of Epstein’s alleged misconduct that would be relevant to the committee’s inquiry.
Hillary Clinton recently told the BBC that she met Epstein’s associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, on “a few occasions,” but does not believe she ever met Epstein personally and was not involved in any trips her husband took with the financier.
The Oversight Committee’s investigation into Epstein aims to clarify the extent of his network and connections, including the involvement of prominent public figures. Thursday’s testimony adds a high-profile dimension to the ongoing inquiry, though the public will initially only have access to the testimony after it is reviewed and released by the committee.
