Meta Platforms Inc. has fired around 20 employees as part of its aggressive stance on maintaining confidentiality within the company. This action reinforces Meta’s unwavering commitment to securing its internal communications and safeguarding company secrets.
A Meta spokesperson confirmed the terminations in a statement released Thursday, noting that the company’s internal investigation led to the dismissal of these employees for leaking confidential information outside the organization. “We recently conducted an investigation that resulted in roughly 20 employees being terminated for sharing confidential information, and we expect there will be more,” said the spokesperson, underscoring Meta’s zero-tolerance policy toward leaks.
The problem of unauthorized disclosures has come into sharper focus following the leak of an internal all-hands meeting led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In response, Meta’s Chief Information Security Officer, Guy Rosen, reminded employees of the critical importance of maintaining confidentiality, issuing a warning against sharing sensitive information.
At a recent company-wide Q&A, Meta’s Chief Technology Officer, Andrew Bosworth, addressed the rising number of leaks, stressing that the company is diligently working to identify and resolve these breaches. “We are making progress on catching people,” Bosworth stated, emphasizing the seriousness of unauthorized information dissemination.
This move comes shortly after Meta also enacted performance-based layoffs, impacting 5% of the workforce—approximately 3,600 employees—who were deemed to be underperforming, despite many of those affected maintaining strong performance records.
In addition to dealing with internal leaks and staffing changes, Meta is rolling out new content moderation policies across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. The company is introducing Community Notes, a feature that empowers users to flag misleading content and provide contextual explanations, replacing the previous independent fact-checking system that had been in place for eight years.
As Meta continues to strengthen its security measures, the message is clear: protecting confidential information remains a top priority, and the company is prepared to take necessary steps to uphold its internal integrity.
