Elon Musk recently praised Jensen Huang, the 61-year-old CEO of the AI chip giant Nvidia, for his exemplary leadership style. Musk’s comment came in response to a post on X that featured a resurfaced clip from Huang’s interview at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

In the clip, Huang discusses his grounded perspective on leadership. “No task is beneath me,” Huang states. “Remember, I used to be a dishwasher. I used to clean toilets… that’s life. So you can’t show me a task that’s beneath me.” This sentiment highlights his willingness to be involved in every aspect of the company, no matter how small or mundane.

Huang is dedicated to engaging directly with his employees, advocating for a flat organizational structure with minimal hierarchy. During the toilet paper shortages of COVID-19, he personally ensured that factories and offices were well-stocked, demonstrating his hands-on approach to logistical challenges.

Huang’s commitment extends to assisting employees with complex or ambiguous tasks. If someone needs help, he’s ready to work through the problem with them.

In 1993, at the age of 30, Huang co-founded Nvidia at a Denny’s in San Jose, California, the same restaurant where he had worked as a busboy 15 years earlier. His journey from dishwasher to the CEO of a tech giant is nothing short of extraordinary.

Today, Nvidia is part of the “Magnificent Seven,” a group of companies including Amazon, Alphabet, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, and Tesla, known for their significant market impact. Nvidia stands out, leading in performance with a year-to-date return of about 151%.
