Will Comcast defy Wall Street expectations amidst subscriber growth slowdown

comcast

Positioned to disclose first-quarter earnings before the opening bell on Thursday, the eyes of Wall Street remain trained on Comcast’s performance, specifically in regard to broadband and streaming subscriber figures.

Broadband in particular has long served as the mainstay business and primary revenue source for Comcast and comparable cable entities. The sector experienced exponential growth, reaching its peak during the crippling height of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, an evident slowdown has been glimpsed among cable company performances recently.

Market analysts surveyed by LSEG have estimated Comcast’s performance for this quarter, predicting an earnings per share expected at 99 cents, with revenue stretched to an anticipated $29.81 billion.

The cable industry has experienced a palpable deceleration in the property market due to soaring interest rates, which has consequently led to a dip in fresh home internet connections. Moreover, an intensified competition from wireless service providers, such as T-Mobile and Verizon, has also arrived on the scene.

Wall Street’s curiosity is equally piqued by Comcast’s NBCUniversal streaming service, Peacock, specifically concerning updates on its subscriber numbers. Peacock continues to add to its subscriber list, although at a slower pace compared to its rivals, causing escalating losses for the corporation.

Disclaimer: Comcast holds the ownership title for NBCUniversal and CNBC.
