CloudPay, a leading provider of payroll services, has announced a successful $120 million funding round led by Blue Owl Capital, bringing its total funding to $228 million. Since its inception in 1996 as a joint venture between Patersons HR and Payroll Solutions, CloudPay has evolved into a major player in the payroll and payments industry, serving 280 firms including prominent names like Visa, Wayfair, Wells Fargo, Expedia, and The London Stock Exchange.
Over the years, CloudPay has integrated advanced workflow automation features, allowing it to process over 3 million pay slips annually across more than 130 countries. This latest infusion of capital is set to propel the company’s growth trajectory further, significantly increasing its valuation.
Adapting to Changing Demands
CloudPay’s CFO, Andy Thomson, emphasized the shifting expectations of clients in today’s dynamic environment. “Customers demand more. In an on-demand world, traditional payroll doesn’t always suffice, so we’ve adapted to meet these new needs,” Thomson explained. The complexity of compliance and legislation across different countries has necessitated this evolution.
Comprehensive Payroll Services
The company now offers a broad spectrum of global payroll services, including salary payments and pay-on-demand options. Payroll professionals benefit from real-time reporting and customizable dashboards, while finance teams can access localized funding solutions tailored to employees’ needs.
Thriving in a Competitive Landscape
The payroll software industry is highly competitive, with new challengers like Workpay, Symmetrical.ai, Payroll Integrations, and Skuad entering the market. Skuad, for example, was recently acquired by fintech company Payoneer. Despite this fierce competition, CloudPay continues to thrive, employing a workforce of 1,350 people with offices in Raleigh, Budapest, Shanghai, Costa Rica, and Barcelona.
Future Plans
With the new funding, CloudPay aims to attract additional integrated partners and further invest in automation and AI technology. “Our focus on technological innovation has been a key priority this year, and with this funding, we can accelerate our plans,” Thomson stated. “Expect to hear more about our AI developments later this year.”
The investment round also saw participation from Rho Capital Partners, The Olayan Group, and Hollyport Capital, underscoring CloudPay’s commitment to technological advancement and robust growth.
