Who doesn’t love smart gadgets? Look around! They’re everywhere! Your smartphone, tablets, smart watches, smart voice assistants. Now, some of us even have smart homes where we control everything from heating to lighting from our phones! The beauty industry isn’t far behind on this trend. Beauty and technology have come together to give insights on skincare and makeup.
Smart skin devices are being used extensively by beauty department stores like Sephora to determine skin conditions and recommend products accordingly. Beauty brands have inculcated this trend in their brand selling point by monetizing through advertising.
What is Smart Beauty?

Smart beauty is about being smart with technology. Of course, it also means making smarter beauty choices. In simple terms, we can call this tech-smart beauty. These are devices which are designed to help people identify their skin problems and fight them accordingly with precision-targeted beauty products. There have been many product launches in this specific sector. High-street beauty brands like The Body Shop and Khiels have been capitalizing on this trend and recommending precision-targeted products to their consumers upon results. These smart-tech products become more personalized, which is a key, as people love having things made specifically for them!
What are Tech-Smart Products?
These products are designed to help consumers make informed choices while purchasing skincare/beauty products. Each product in the market is different from what their counterparts have to offer. Smart mirrors are a big hit amongst consumers, as they can analyze skin in the morning or at the end of the day. At the same time, these mirrors show what the skin can look like in the future using the data entered by the user. Brands like Simple Human, The Juno, and HiMirror are dominant players in their product sector. This trend has been particularly capitalized by Elizabeth Arden, where a consumer can have a consultation with a skincare expert, using these mirrors to analyze the signs of aging, etc.

Brands like Foreo, Clinique, and Clarasonic are offering smart beauty brushes and more, where the consumer uses this smart brush to cleanse their face and call it 3 minute daily facial ritual. Foreo, in particular, has a lot to offer than just a smart brush. Smart toothbrushes, tongue cleansers, and smart LED masks are just a few to name! To make these high-tech smart beauty products affordable to general masses and everyday consumers, Neutrogena launched two smart beauty products named Light Therapy Acne Spot Treatment and Light Therapy Acne Masks (which is enough for up to 30 treatments).

Each LED treatment is designed to be used for up to 15 minutes. Beauty giants Lancôme and Sephora also have smart beauty devices which detect actual skin tone and matches it precisely with the foundation shade! Sephora uses the Skin IQ technology to do the needful. Much like Sephora, Lancôme built on this technique and has offered a complete new product: a personalised foundation in 10 minutes! After completing skin tests and finding the perfect shade, consumers can decide the hydration level of their foundation and whether it’s a matte finish, etc. After 10 minutes, the buyer has a foundation specifically designed for them according to their skin needs.
#SmartTechBeauty is the Future
The future of this trend seems big; brands are planning to launch products in the near future, which will change the beauty game! According to some news, Neutrogena is planning to launch new products in the coming months, whereby consumers will get 3D printed sheet masks, called Neturogena MaskID, according to their face shape! All you have to do is download the Neutrogena app, look into your phone, answer a few questions, click a photo, and voila! You have your own personalized mask! Although some countries have this product available already, the rest of the world is still waiting.
The future is bright! Maybe someday soon, brands will be capitalizing on tech-smart advancements involving human DNA. Imagine products designed for you by analyzing your genetics! How much more personal can it get!
