Amazon has made Uber Eats the official restaurant delivery partner for U.S. Prime members, the companies announced Thursday, ending Amazon’s four-year commercial arrangement with Grubhub and deepening an already extensive relationship between Amazon and Uber.

Key takeaways

  • Prime members can now order Uber Eats restaurant delivery directly on Amazon.com and in the Amazon Shopping app, with no Uber account required.
  • Orders of $25 or more carry a $0 delivery fee, and Amazon says Prime-exclusive offers could add up to more than $175 in potential savings per year, a company-marketed figure.
  • Amazon’s Grubhub agreement ended Thursday; Prime members who already activated Grubhub+ can keep using it through December 31, 2027.
  • The deal extends an Amazon-Uber relationship that already spans cloud computing, Zoox robotaxis, and Alexa+ integration.

What Prime members get

Under the partnership, announced Thursday, U.S. Prime members can order restaurant delivery through Amazon.com and the Amazon Shopping app, powered by Uber Eats, without creating an Uber account or downloading a new app. Orders of $25 or more carry no delivery fee, and Amazon says additional Prime-exclusive offers could total more than $175 in potential annual savings, a figure the company markets as exceeding the cost of an annual Prime membership.

To launch the benefit, Prime members get $20 off their first two Uber Eats orders of $25 or more during the first 14 days, and Prime Visa cardmembers earn 5% back on Uber Eats orders through December 5, 2026. Amazon says the benefit reaches nearly ten thousand cities and towns, including members of its discounted Prime for Young Adults and Prime Access tiers.

“This is what Prime is all about: unlimited free, fast delivery on a wide selection of products, big savings, fantastic entertainment, and now even more value on restaurant delivery with Uber Eats, all in a single membership,” said Jamil Ghani, Worldwide Vice President of Amazon Prime, in the announcement.

The end of the Grubhub era

Amazon’s commercial agreement with Grubhub, which gave Prime members access to Grubhub+, ended Thursday, an Amazon spokesperson told TechCrunch, and a Grubhub spokesperson confirmed the split. Members who already activated Grubhub+ through Amazon can continue using that membership through December 31, 2027.

The unwinding has been gradual. Amazon first partnered with Grubhub in 2022 with a free Grubhub+ offer, then expanded the deal in 2024 and arranged warrants for a stake of up to 18% in the delivery company under its then-owner Just Eat Takeaway.com. Months later, Just Eat Takeaway agreed to sell Grubhub to Wonder, and Amazon elected to cash out its exercisable warrants in December 2024, according to Just Eat Takeaway’s annual report.

A bigger Amazon-Uber bet

The food delivery tie-up is one thread in a widening partnership. Amazon and Uber already work together across cloud computing, the Zoox robotaxi effort, and the integration of Uber Eats into Amazon’s Alexa+ assistant. For Uber, the deal puts its restaurant network in front of Prime’s membership base through one of the largest storefronts in U.S. retail; for Amazon, it is another perk aimed at justifying the annual Prime fee.

Restaurant delivery has been a testing ground for bigger logistics ideas. Grey Journal covered Chipotle’s Zipotle drone delivery pilot, and Zipline’s new $1.5 billion raise this week is funding a nationwide drone delivery network.
