I visited Las Vegas for Christmas and noticed a lot more families flocking to the city than the last time I was there years ago. With the increase in attractions, is it now possible to enjoy Las Vegas without the gambling that made it famous? Here are a few family-friendly things you can do in Vegas:

Twilight Zone Mini Golf

Location: Bally’s Hotel & Casino, 3645 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89109
Hours: 10 AM – 12 AM

This locale features a glow-in-the-dark 18-hole mini golf course and bowling alley. With a unique course design, murals, and props it will feel like you’re walking through your favorite Twilight Zone episodes. Each hole has its own distinct challenges so even if you’re a parent you’ll stay entertained.

Red Rock Canyon

Location: Scenic Loop Drive, Las Vegas, NV
Hours: Varrys depending on season

Located just a short drive outside of Las Vegas, Red Rock Canyon is truly a sight to behold. With numerous trails ranging in difficulty, you can explore this majestic national park from every angle. With stunning rock formations and petroglyphs left by Native American tribes, this natural setting preserves both the nature and history of the desert landscape. Make sure you bring your camera because everything is photo worthy.

The World’s Tallest Observation Wheel

Location: 3545 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89109
Hours: 11:30 AM – 2 AM

The Observation Wheel at the Linq Hotel and Casino is the tallest in the world. With spacious and comfortable passenger pods you’ll be able to enjoy the view in style. The wheel also changes colors frequently and lights up its surroundings with a technicolor glow. There are even compartments equipped with a bar and lounge set up for any parties or events!

The Mob Museum

Location: 300 Stewart Avenue, Downtown Las Vegas
Hours: 9 AM – 9 PM

This museum features the history of the mob in America and has exhibits focusing on specific gangsters their role in past events. From Prohibition in the 1920s to current events, this museum’s engaging exhibit design makes for a fascinating experience.

The Fly Linq Zip Line

Location: 3545 Las Vegas Blvd. South Las Vegas, NV 89109
Hours: Sunday – Thursday 11:30 AM – 12:00 AM, Friday & Saturday 11:30 AM – 2:00 AM

If you’re looking for a bit of adventure a zip line experience might be for you! The Linq Hotel and Casino hosts its own zip line experience that sends you flying from away from the strip and over open air. As you pass iconic Vegas attractions like the Flamingo, you’ll get a unique and exciting view of the city.

A quick note though, lines can be long so booking in advance can do you a lot of favors. There are also height and weigh restrictions so make sure to check those before going.

The Zak Bagans’ Haunted Museum

Hours: 1 PM – 9 PM, Not open on Tuesdays

Voted the best museum in Las Vegas in 2018, this location is quickly becoming one of the most popular destinations in the city. Fans of the Ghost Adventures TV show will already be familiar with Mr. Bagans, as he is the host and lead investigator. The museum itself is the home of multiple haunted artifacts and memorabilia. While parts of the museum are controversial (like the exhibit of some of Charles Manson’s possessions) others are more solidly rooted in ghost story lore.

It may not be the best place for young children, but if you’re a family with a sense of adventure and fondness for the weird this might be the museum for you. Even if you’re a skeptic, it can be fun to watch other people in the tour jump at shadows (speaking from personal experince).

A quick tip, the lines for this museum can be pretty long. Buying tickets online beforehand can help, but you may want to go when the crowds are at a lull. Bring a snack or some water to have in line because you’ll probably be waiting awhile.
