Kamala Harris’s Campaign Momentum & Lessons For Entrepreneurs

Although Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign started long after former President Trump’s campaign, her campaign has moved swiftly to motivate voters to rally behind her.

Because President Joe Biden stepped down late, there was no time to hold a true presidential primary. As a result, the Harris campaign had to work quickly to rally support among Democrats.

The momentum behind the campaign can be attributed to the timeline, the recent vice presidential pick, and Harris’s energy.

In the past two election cycles, people have been reluctant to rally behind an older President. Harris provides a younger, yet experienced, alternative. There is no doubt about her qualifications, or ability to remain engaged in office.

Within hours of her campaign announcement, social media blew up rallying behind Harris. Remixes of Charli XCX’s new album, Brat, featuring experts of Harris’s speeches, took over TikTok, Instagram, and X.

The fundraising behind the Harris Campaign shows how excited people are about the new Democratic candidate.

Since Biden endorsed the Harris campaign, $310 million has been raised to support her. Voters and donors across the country have become energized by the prospective of Harris rather than Biden or Trump.

Additionally, many notable public figures have expressed support for Harris immediately following Biden’s endorsement.

Former President Barack Obama, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, and the Clintons have all endorsed Harris, expressing enthusiasm for her candidacy.

Recent polls reflect the successes of Harris’s campaign. The Economist places Harris’s leading the polls with a median of 47.4%, compared to Trump’s 45.2%.

Although there is ample time until November for unprecedented events to occur, the campaign strategy is unlike any prior.

The influx of social media managers and young adults have shaped the campaign’s success with memes of Harris. One of the most repeated phrases regarding Harris’s campaign is, “You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?”

Harris is proving she has not, in fact, fallen out of a coconut tree. Her nomination is not given but has been earned by her dedication to the Democratic party and her drive to appeal to the nation.

Individuals across the country have launched onto social media, especially TikTok, to dance along to remixes of Charli XCX’s music with Harris’s speeches.

Potential Vice President Tim Walz

Harris has received an edge through her recent Vice President pick, Tim Walz. Walz’s background as the Governor of Minnesota has allowed him to appeal to the average Midwest voter.

In contrast, Trump’s decision to choose JD Vance as his running mate has created problems among the Republican party. At the Republican National Convention, Vance embarrassed himself by failing to garner support from the party.

Trump was blinded by his desire to choose a running mate that would follow his leadership, unlike former Vice President Mike Pence, rather than selecting someone with a strong background of experience.

Lessons Learned

Entrepreneurs can learn from the successes of the Harris campaign. The moment Biden stepped down and endorsed Harris, she did not waste any time. Every moment since her campaign began has been filled with intentional effort.

Harris has invested everything into her campaign, a risk with high rewards. Similarly, this principle can be applied to entrepreneurship.

Harris’s drive and youth make her a standout candidate. Her campaign team is emphasizing her undeniable successes while working to relate to the American people.

For example, rather than portraying Harris as overly cold and unapproachable, most videos and content surrounding her are clips of her laughing with others. Entrepreneurs worldwide can replicate these tactics, remembering that gaining audience approval is crucial for success.

Without audience approval, success in entrepreneurship will be limited.
