Good News for SSI Recipients! They will receive SSI extra payment November 2024 because it falls on a weekend, which is the regular payment date for December’s payments. SSI payment benefits are provided to people who are older than 65 years and whose earnings are negligible or to anyone who is less than 65 years and has some form of physical or mental disability; in both cases, the benefits are usually distributed on the first day of every month unless this person is already receiving old-age benefits; around 7.5 million people receive SSI each month, and the highest benefit payable to a single individual is $943.
What are SSI Payments?
SSI stands for “Supplemental Security Income.” In 1972, the U.S. Congress called it “an assistance source.” For 38% of adults 65 and older who receive SSI benefits, it is their only source of income. Social Security and SSI are administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA), but they have two different sources of funding. These programs are funded by payroll taxes, except for SSI, which is funded by general tax revenues.
The SSA also manages Social Security Disability Insurance (SSI), which is for people with qualifying work histories and disabilities. SSA differs from SSI because one’s income must be very low to qualify. In contrast, a qualifying work history is unnecessary if the individual is over 65 or disabled.
Who is Getting Two SSI Checks in November?
SSI payments are provided to people over 65 who receive little or no income or to those below 65 who have some kind of physical or mental disorder. In both cases, the payments are usually distributed on the first day of the month. Approximately 7.5 million recipients get SSI monthly, with a maximum individual benefit of $943. This time, people will get Double SSI checks in November because the Social Security payment schedule changes.
SSI recipients will receive their benefits on November 1, as scheduled, and then on November 29. Payment is normally received on December 1. The reason is that December 1st falls on a Sunday, and Social Security payments aren’t made on weekends or federal holidays.
December Social Security and SSI Payments
All other Social Security payments for retirees under the regular Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) program will be paid throughout December. If you do not receive your payment, the SSA advises waiting three more mailing days after the scheduled payment date.
SSI beneficiaries will get their checks days ahead of December’s end. Instead of December 31 this year, it would be on the 30th because January 1 falls on a federal holiday, and remember that SSI payment adjustment is for weekends and holidays. The recipients would, therefore, receive a much-needed boost in their payments this December or January because of the newly disclosed Cost of Living Adjustment, which benefits them with a higher payment on an annual basis to account for inflation.

How to Apply for SSI Payments?
You apply for SSI through Social Security. You can start by filling out an online questionnaire. It takes only 5-10 minutes. Upon filing the online questionnaire, after 7-14 days, you will receive a letter stating when and where you must appear in person at your local Social Security office. An SSA representative there will guide you in applying for the payment.
