The Delta Variant continues to rise within the U.S. as COVID-19 cases more than doubled within the last two weeks. According to data from Johns Hopkins University, 47 states are showing recent cases up 10%. The World Health Organization (WHO) emergency committee stated that the pandemic is “nowhere near finished.

The Delta Variant along with three other variants has caused concern and has a “strong likelihood for the emergence and global spread.”

The surge in new COVID-19 cases has caused some places to take matters into their own hands. Los Angeles County has decided to reinstate its mask mandate for indoor use after 1,827 news cases. In addition to these cases, 11 deaths were reported and a COVID positivity rate increased by 700%. With this rise, many health officials attribute these new cases to the Delta variant and people who are unmasked and vaccination status unknown.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is urging those who have been vaccinated to continue wearing masks and practice social distancing as the variant spreads. Along with this, the organization is urging those who haven’t to get vaccinated.
