With the huge number of cocktails out in the world, it’s not surprising that a few fall through the cracks. There are hidden gems in those lost cocktails, delicious drinks that everybody would probably enjoy. This week we’re focusing on The Bamboo!
If you’re not into cocktails that are heavy on the booze, this might be for you. This cocktail was created by Louis Eppinger in the 1890s, at the Grand Hotel In Yokohama, Japan. His variation on the martini is made with an equal mix of cherry and dry vermouth. With the addition of bitters and a dry lemon twist, this cocktail is simple to make and delicious to drink. Eppinger became a recognized and talked about figure in nightlife up to his death in 1907. The Bamboo traveled across the ocean and soon became a fixture in American bars by 1901.
- 1 1/2 ounces of sherry
- 1 1/2 ounces of vermouth
- 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters
- (optional) 2 dashes of orange bitters
- (optional) 1 teaspoon rich cane syrup
- Put ingredients in your glass
- Add ice and stir until chilled
- Strain into a cocktail glass
