Many people go to extremes when trying to lose weight or get in shape. Whether it’s limiting all of your favorite food groups, trying out a new fad diet, or taking diet supplements, the results don’t seem to last longer than a few weeks. This is because they’re not effective ways to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

What to Avoid on Your Health Journey

Crash Diet

Crash diets consist of a caloric deficit of 500 or more. This will lead to extreme hunger, lack of muscle, fatigue, and a dangerous effect on your sympathetic nervous system (your low blood sugar will result in fainting). You want your metabolism to be working perfectly, and this type of diet will slow it down. There are too many health risks with extreme dieting such as this one.

Stress

Stressing yourself out because you’re not where you want to be will only make you feel worse. It will also cause you to hold weight in your abdominal region. The stress hormone cortisol will influence sugar cravings.

Diet Supplements

Most of these supplements are dangerous and should be avoided. They contain more harmful ingredients than nutrients. You can fuel your body with nutrients from real food. Aconite, chaparral, colloidal silver, and coltsfoot are common ingredients in diet supplements that lead to cancer and turning your skin a bluish color.

The Right Way to Approach Getting in Shape

Exercise

Walking or exercising for 30 minutes a day is a great way to get in shape. Starting with 10 minutes and increasing the intensity of the workout is a good idea. Besides, working out causes the brain to release dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins making you feel happy.

Don’t Expect to Lose 10lbs in One Week

Slow progress means that the weight has a better chance of staying off for good. When you nourish your body properly with plenty of fruit, water, vegetables, and grains, you will naturally lose the excess fat.

A healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be miserable. The key is consistency and moderation. Exercise regularly, eat 80% healthy nourishing food, 20% of the less healthy foods that you crave, and don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s never too late to start your healthy lifestyle!
